I was born and raised in the great nation of Texas. I am from a modern blended family and one of five kids! I am the 4th oldest or 2nd youngest, whichever way you want to look at it. I grew up in the bedroom community of Coppell, Texas just on the outskirts of Dallas and close to the DFW airport. I have been a jet setter since I was 3 weeks old, you see I am a pilot's daughter and fortunately for me I grew up flying for free. I have had the opportunity to travel a lot and I love to explore new cities to get a glimpse of their everyday life and culture.
I am a CPA and currently work for an exploration and production oil and gas company in downtown Denver. I have been praying and thinking a lot over the last few years on how and where I can use my other gifts and passions other than accounting related professional skills. Some of my passions are mentoring others, whether it is professionally or personally, leading and walking with others in their walk with Jesus, speaking to students & others about networking, what the real work world is like, using social media to help non-profits maximize their impact and reach their strategic goals, event planning, and so much more. When I poured my heart out to my husband and my community group in 2014 about some of these things I was interested in, I got nothing but support and "Oh that would be perfect for you. You should follow your dreams. Ask God to reveal His plan for you." Then I was left with: What does this practically look like in my life? How can I pursue these other interests while still working at my current job? What exactly do I want to do?
Quickly after this stirring in my heart became more and more evident, my now husband Ben proposed to me in March of 2014! Suddenly a new phase in life was ushered in that completely took over my after hours & most of my attention. I continuously attempted to make our wedding and the planning the sole focus of our life but let's be honest, I am a girl and this is was the time in life I had always dreamed of! I decided it would be best to put this new venture on hold until life settled down just a little. :) Fast forward one year and we both finished the CPA exam & got licensed, we both got promoted at our jobs, we planned a wedding while I lived in Fort Worth & Ben lived in Denver (yes - we survived 1 and a half years of long distance), we had 7 beautiful wedding showers hosted for us, countless trips across the country to visit each other, attend weddings, and spend time with our big families, we got married in a red barn in Weatherford, Texas in what I can only describe as a completely perfect day, we went halfway around the world to Thailand for a 2 week honeymoon, we packed up my apartment (and by we I mean my dad & step-mom graciously flew to Fort Worth & packed up 95% of my entire apartment for me! I could NOT have done it without them.), we spent time with our families for the holidays in Dallas, we moved Trigger & all my stuff to Denver, then we topped off the year with a week in the mountains at our family's cabin! Wow - sometimes I just can't believe that is my life & I somehow came out on the other side of all of that alive & kicking. So now that I can breathe again - I am pursuing my dream.... actually our dream. I look forward to see what the Lord has in store for us and where this will take us. I don't have all my ideas and plans completely figured out but the great news is, I don't have to. Jesus already has it all figured out and I will just trust Him and rest in that truth.
A few of my favorite things: Jesus, my husband, my black lab - Trigger, THE Dallas Cowboys, my family, nachos, tomatoes, being a beach bum, strawberry smoothies, skiing, cowboy boots, talking, farmhouses, old & remodeled houses, all things rustic & wood, scarves, movies, peanut m&ms, trucks, my friends, love stories, bracelets & bangles, novels, Tex Mex, country music, the Georgia Bulldogs, getting to know new people, but most importantly, Jesus.
My life forever changed when I met Ben Henderson and he asked me to be his wife! We just got hitched in a red barn in Weatherford, Texas on December 6, 2014 and then moved to Denver, Colorado to start our life together. Yes - this man got this girl to move out of Texas and I am loving it. Stay tuned to find out as we embark on this crazy, lovely, wonderful thing called marriage.
